Crisis Loans in Glasgow – Applications, Contact Details

Despite the fact that the term ‘Crisis Loan’ is incredibly well known across the UK, there is actually no benefit available to people in Britain that is termed under that name. That means it is technically impossible to get a Crisis Loan in Glasgow, but don’t fret – there are other actions you can take to make sure that you have emergency funds in your time of need that would roughly fit within what most people would term to be a Crisis Loan.

Alternatives to a Crisis Loan for those in Glasgow

The ideal situation if you are in a time of crisis and need funds is for the money to not be repayable. Under the Scottish Welfare Fund, you may be eligible to apply for a payment that will tide you over and help make ends meet. These are run by local authorities, and in Glasgow, they are run by Glasgow City Council, and all applications should be done through them. You may be eligible for one of two payments

Crisis Grants

A Crisis Grant is given in a time of emergency, with examples being that of a fire or flood. If you have had a personal disaster – and losing money, or having it stolen, also fits into that – you can make an application and the decision will be made within 24 hours. You can make your Crisis Grant application here, or do so via phone Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.45pm on 0141 276 1177. Crisis Grants are normally limited to three in a rolling 12-month period, and are not subject to benefit sanctions. Crisis Grants given by Glasgow City Council do not have to be paid back.

Community Care Grants

Community Care Grants are for people who are at risk of having to go into care if they do not have support at home, or who are leaving care. It can also be used by families who have emergency one-off payments to make, such as needing a new cooker, washing machine, or fridge. You can make your Community Care Grant application here. You can also do so by phoning Glasgow City Council on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursday between 9.30am and 12.30pm by calling 0141 276 1177. Applications take 15 working days to process, and maybe given directly for the goods requested, to the services needed, or by bank transfer. Each case it looked at on a case by case basis on its own merits, and there is no limit to the amount that one individual can receive in a 12 month period. Community Care Grants given by Glasgow City Council do not need to be repaid.
